Thanksgiving Weekend

This has been a WONDERFUL week! This past Tuesday, 11-22-11, our newest grandchild was born at 7:45 a.m. His name is Vaughn Charles Nash. He weighed 6 lbs 10 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. His mommy, Angelica, was absolutely amazing through the entire childbirth. His daddy, John, joined the experience via Skype. It was truly miraculous that the internet connection was constant through the entire time!

Wednesday evening Bobby, Holly, Elizabeth, Robert and Blondie came for the Thanksgiving weekend. Bob, Dave and Bobby headed to a movie right away while Holly and I got the car unloaded and the kids settled in for the night. We got the turkey prepped for Thursday and made room in the fridge for all the upcoming food.

Thursday....Thanksgiving Day! Bob, Bobby, Elizabeth, Bosco and Blondie all went for a hike up the mountain. Holly made a cranberry tort, cranberry relish AND an apple pie! Dave, Deborah and Colton came and joined in the fun. Dave and Bobby made stuffing while Deborah made pies...2 banana cream (her mom's special recipe) and 2 chocolate/chocolate fudge.

Elizabeth is becoming so grown up! She was a huge help with everything! She made name tags for the table and helped to set the table.

The little boys...Robert and Colton....have been enjoying playing with each other. Well...I guess you could call it playing. Robert likes to poke Colton's ear and Colton likes to take away Robert's books. They both like playing with the toys and sitting and looking at books together. They are way cute! They are both fascinated with Baby Vaughn.

Angelica's parents, Leo and Gudelia, are staying with us as they care for Angelica and Vaughn. What a joy it has been to be with them! It was so fun to have them join us for this Thanksgiving!

When it came time to carve the turkey, Angelica brought Baby Vaughn over to have his picture taken next to the turkey. The turkey weighs 4 times as much as Baby Vaughn!

When evening came.....Bob, Bobby, Dave & Deborah went to another movie. Deborah was definitely a good sport on this one as it was NOT one she was excited to see. When they got home they poured over the Black Friday ads commenting on the things they thought DAD should get! Good luck guys! There is NO WAY he will EVER do Black Friday!

Friday is our traditional day to get our Christmas tree. Everyone headed over to the local tree farm and picked out the tree. Dave and Deborah got a blue spruce with pine cones on it. We got a LARGE pine .... also with pine cones. Bob started to cut it, but Leo took over. It took all four boys (Bob, Leo, Bobby, Dave) to get it out and loaded onto the trailer. Getting the tree into the house is another story.....one I don't think I will get into. Let's just say that is the part where I wish I was somewhere else! AND....Does anyone else see the complete joy on Deborah's face as she is holding this darling baby? Ahem......time for another one?!? Soon!!!!!??!!? :)

Back to the tree......Then come the lights. Oh how I hate putting on the lights! I have been doing it for over thirty years and I STILL do not like doing the lights! This year...it was fun to have Elizabeth and little Robert helping with the decorating. Elizabeth climbed the step stool to be able to reach some of the higher places. Little Robert had such fun choosing the ornament and then putting it on the tree. I was amazed that he could actually do it! So cute! And so what if most of the ornaments are low....really low! These darling grandkids are just so much fun!

Saturday, my parents came down to see everyone and Gudelia taught my mom, Holly and me how to make tortillas.....REAL tortillas! My mom and Holly were able to make nice round ones.....mine were pretty frilly around the edges! Tradition is that the spouse eats the very first tortilla...so Bobby and my dad ate and enjoyed! Bob wasn't around, so I ate it! (Notice the cute flower hair piece that Gudelia made for my mom!)

Gudelia made us the best dinner on Saturday evening.... Peruvian beans, tortillas and leftover turkey mixed with onions, jalapenos and tomatoes with mole on top.... mmmmmm! So good! Elizabeth had two helpings! In fact...when the kids were leaving on Sunday, Gudelia gave them ALL the tortillas and beans to take with them! AAAHHHH!!!! NOT FAIR! (I am only okay with it because I love my darling family so much and it really was fun to see how much Elizabeth was enjoying it!)

After dinner, Bob and Bobby met Dave at....yep..you guessed it....the movies! Geez....how many movies can you see in a weekend!?! Again, they said it was NOT a chick flick, so I was okay with it.

Sunday, we all went to church....(even Angelica and Baby Vaughn). Afterwards, Angelica and her parents took Vaughn to get some lab work done. When they got home we all ate dinner...roast, potatoes and carrots....until we couldn't eat any more! Bob then left for the airport for his business trip to Kansas City, Missouri. (I bet he doesn't go to any movies while he is gone!)

Today my parents came down again.....this time to teach Gudelia how to bottle green beans. That was really fun! She did a great job. She and Leo had brought a whole bucket full of beans with them and so those are what we bottled. She did 18 pints!

What a GREAT week! The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have Paul, Amy & Clara here! But.....they had a wonderful Thanksgiving of their own in San Jose with Amy's family! Missed you guys!
